Still from G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

A week before the premiere of Stars Earn Stripes I wrote a post called Army Realness from NATO to NBC. It didn’t occur to me that the show would make much of a blip, taking for granted the idea that displays of reverence for the (explosion! boom! kapow!) military are the default configuration. Instead, nine Nobel laureates have called for the show to be canceled and protests were staged outside NBC’s New York studios.

The Marc Steiner Show, an NPR affiliate station in Baltimore that covers public affairs on WEAA 88.9FM, picked up the issue of war as entertainment. They asked me to join their discussion (along with UMBC professor Rebecca Adelman and Huffington Post senior military correspondent David Wood) for the hour yesterday.

The podcast for the radio program can be listened to here.
