Scout guns, not cookies

May 14, 2009

The town is aptly named Imperial, and the near-children being trained for combat are aptly called Explorers. An off-shoot program of the Boy Scouts, its trainers say it is for ‘true-blooded Americans’ who espouse ‘honor’ and ‘bravery’ (maybe that’s why human rights groups who criticize the use of child soldiers in Africa keep quiet about North America; American child soldiers are honorable and brave while African child soldiers are the product of brainwashing, a shitty economy, warlords, etc.). ‘In a competition in Arizona that he did not oversee, Deputy Lowenthal said, one role-player wore traditional Arab dress. “If we’re looking at 9/11 and what a Middle Eastern terrorist would be like,” he said, “then maybe your role-player would look like that. I don’t know, would you call that politically incorrect?”’ (from Cass; NYT photo)
