Is the South bad for bloggers?

April 30, 2009

The Committee to Protect Journalists thinks so. They have compiled a list of the worst countries for bloggers. That they are all ´global South´ nations comes as no huge surprise: Burma, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Tunisia, China, Turkmenistan, and Egypt are not particularly known for their free expression clauses. The compilation looks about right, although I would personally flip the list to put Egypt at the top. No English translations on the site, but they carry a news feed in Portuguese. (from Angry Arab)
