Space for reflection: José Saramago, 1922-2010

June 18, 2010

From the blog of the most exquisite writer of the Portuguese language, a single entry:

‘I think that in contemporary society we lack philosophy. Philosophy as a space, place, method for reflection, that can be without a determined objective, like science, which advances in order to satisfy objectives. We lack reflection, thinking, we need the labor of thinking, and it seems to me that, without ideas, we are not going anywhere.’
